Growing so fast.

Bili Baby

Our little Nikson really enjoys giving his mom a heart attack, something I think he will continue to do all his life (if he is anything like his dad). First he didn't want pee for us at all.  It was freaking the nurses out which was freaking me out. They said they needed him to pee in the first 24 hours, well that didn't happen.  He was fine with pooping, we changed 8 poopy diapers in his first 24 hours, he pooped like a champ.  The pediatrician came in on Monday morning and told us we really shouldn't start to worry until it has been 48 hours, which made me feel better but he pushed it. He finally peed after 36 hour since he was born. We celebrated his pee :) when the pediatrician was there on Monday morning he also tested Nikson's bilirubin levels and they were in the high risk zone and so all day Monday and until we got to go home on Tuesday he had to be under the lights in the nursery, they only would bring him out when he was ready to eat, which made it hard for visitors because they couldn't see or hold him and made it hard on me because I missed him.  We didn't get any pictures of him under the lights at the hospital but they did send us home with his eye wear he had to wear under the lights.  On Tuesday his bilirubin levels had dropped into the low risk zone but they didn't want it to jump back up so they sent us home with a light bed that he would have to be in all the time at home except for feeding until we went to the Dr on Wednesday to get his levels tested again.  He absolutely hated his bilibed, and so did I. Our little man likes to be swaddled and secure and in that bed he couldn't be. Our first night home I don't think there was a time that all 3 of us were asleep at the same time, it made for a long night. Josh is an awesome daddy and is so great with Nikson. He even let me go sleep on the couch for a little while while he tried to get Nikson back to sleep. At the Dr on Wednesday we got good news that his levels were continuing to go down and we were past the scary part and he didn't need to be under the lights anymore.  Night # 2 was a whole lot better. We had to go back to the Dr on Thursday and everything was looking great, so we don't have to go back until his 2 week appointment.

His poor sore heels, he hated getting them
poked. So did I.
He has still kinda been a stinker about going potty for us (again giving me a heart attack) but needless to say every diaper change in this house is celebrated!

Our Little Baby Story.

Before we left to the hospital. I am pretty sure I was having a contraction
during this picture! (This picture was on Josh's phone, I almost
forgot about it)
All checked in, I look huge!

Saturday October 15th I woke up around 8am having contractions, this wasn't too big of a deal because I had been having contractions on and off since Tuesday. They started getting worse as the morning went on but weren't consistent at all, they were all about 40 seconds to a minute long but between 3 - 9 minutes apart. My sister Megan came over that day to help me get Nikson's room all organized, and I contracted the whole time she was there but they still weren't consistent. Around 5 they started to be more consistent and we decided that if they were still like this at 6:45 we would head to the hospital. Around 6:30 they were between 3-4 mins apart and we knew it was time. I was so nervous to go to the hospital and have them send me home because it was a false alarm, I was just wishing my water would break so they would have to keep me. We got to the hospital at 7, when the nurse (Roberta) checked me I was dialated to a 3.5 and 90% effaced and she said that the baby's head was very low, and I would be having a baby pretty soon. I got my epidural around 8 and started feeling better really soon after. The anesthesiologist was really great and made it so I couldn't feel any pain but I could move my legs just enough and feel what was going on for the most part. My sisters came to the hospital around 9pm They didn't break my water or put me on pitocin they let me progress on my own which I am grateful for, it didn't seem like a long night for me, I was just really hungry so I was ready to have my baby so I could eat :) My water broke about 3:30 when I was a 9.5. Around 4 they had me do some practice pushes. My mother in law showed up at 4:30 and they had me start pushing 4:45 and they told me the average time for pushing for the first baby was between 1-3 hours, I was determined that it would take me an hour. My dr finally showed up around 5:30 (I was a little worried that the nurse would have to deliver the baby). Nikson Troy Thornton was born Sunday, October 16th at 5:37am weighing 6lbs 5oz and 20 inches long and very healthy. He was the 3rd baby out of 7 born that night/morning, I was racing with the girl in the next room and I beat her by almost an hour and a half :)

Look at his hair! Doesn't compare at all to his cousin Hadlee but I am glad he has some!

First bath! He kinda hated it.
Since Nikson was full term but so small they had to check his vitals more often and check his blood sugar every 6 hours to make sure he was getting enough to eat. Between the blood sugars and bilirubin test poor Nikson's heels were sore and bruised.
Our special new mom and dad dinner!
On Monday the pediatrician came in and tested Nikson's bilirubin levels and they were in the high risk zone so they had to put him under the lights in the nursery. They would only bring him out for his feedings, I missed him. On Tuesday we got to go home, Nikson's bilirubin levels were still kinda high so we had to had a light bed (bilibed) at home. But I will post about that later.
All dressed to go home!

Our new family of 3 on our way home!

Due Date # 2

Today is Oct 14th, the second due date my Dr. gave me, after my ultrasound. The first due date was Oct 26th and my third and final due date is Oct 20th (right in the middle of the two).  I was always secretly hoping he would come by today, but things would have to get going pretty fast to get him here today.

My last Dr. appointment was on Monday.  I had only progressed a little tiny bit but he seemed surprised and told me that he wouldn't be surprised if the baby was here in the next 7 days (that kinda freaked Josh out).  But not really something you tell a pregnant lady that is 9 months along, unless you can guarantee it.   My Dr. might get kicked in the face if I am back in his office on Monday.  After my appointment on Monday I was up most of the night throwing up and having contractions so I thought for sure he was right, but nothing else happened.  I have pretty much had little contractions since Tuesday and felt kinda crappy.

I want everyone to put their guesses in on how big you think he will be... Post in a comment, on facebook, email, text, whatever :)

On Monday the Dr. said he thought he was still in the 6lbs, not quite 7lbs yet.  But he doesn't have the best track record when it comes to baby weight!

October

(I wrote this post about a week ago :) The picture is from today)

I felt like October would never get here, but at the same time I can't believe its here already. 13 days until my due date. Absolutely crazy. I am so ready to not be pregnant anymore but I am also not quite used to the fact I am pregnant and I think I might actually miss being pregnant in a weird way. But having a cute little snuggly baby will be so much better.

Let's do a little prego catch up. I am now 38 weeks, only 2 weeks to go. No progression yet, which is kinda a bummer to me but Josh and I need as much time as we can get to get ready to be a family of 3. I am feeling pretty good, I changed my heartburn medicine to Prevacid instead of Prilosec and I swear by it. My stomach feels great and my appetite is better. My pregnant brain is just getting worse and worse. I can't remember anything for longer then 5 mins. I have started to feel like there is a bowling ball stuck in my pelvis, which make any little movement hurt and makes me need to pee every 5 mins. Everyone said that once the baby drops your ribs feel so much better and you can breath better, but my baby must be 3 feet long already because he has dropped but still is in my ribs (I swear that yesterday he was sticking his toes between my ribs) and I still have a hard time breathing.

As much as I love summer, I am excited for fall this year (it might have something to do with having a baby) but other then snow and cold season, I am so excited for:

- sweaters (especially cardigans)
- boots
- moccasins
- jackets (cute ones not practical ones)
- hot chocolate
- yummy soups
- snuggling with warm blankets (and with warm babies)
- hats
- midgees (vanilla tootsie rolls that are a Halloween special edition)
